Industrial rope access

What is industrial rope access?

Industrial rope access is a form of work positioning, developed from climbing and caving techniques, which applies practical rope work to access safely and swiftly difficult-to-reach locations without the use of scaffolding, cradles or power accessed vehicles.

Industrial rope access is used as a primary access solution for installing hangers and suspension equipment to enable working platforms to be fitted in difficult to access locations.

Trained rope access technicians descend, ascend and traverse ropes and work while being suspended by a harness or a work seat. This is achieved by operating two ropes – a working line and a safety line.

The rope support eliminates the likelihood of a fall however a back-up system is used in the case of a failure of the primary rope equipment.

Advantages of using industrial rope access

Industrial rope access allows less disturbance to the buildings and surrounding areas compared to scaffolding and other traditional methods.

Using rope access requires minimal load bearing which minimises or completely eliminates damage to delicate masonry and gilding while inspections and repair work is carried out. Rope access work includes building and bridge maintenance, repair work, inspection of ventilation shafts and chimneys, installation of advertising banners and other varied tasks.

Safety

All rope access work is carried out under our commitment to IRATA membership (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) ensuring that best commitment, training and work practices are represented on each occasion.
